Last May ISO TC46/SC11 decided to undertake the revision of ISO 15489. All ISO standards are submitted to a periodic review cycle in which the technical committees decide whether to confirm, withdraw or revise the standard. After a failed attempt of review between 2005 and 2007, the ISO 15489 standard was confirmed until 2012. Now, after a consultation and the study of possibilities, TC46/SC11 going to try again. The most convincing argument for undertaking this review is that in more than 10 years since its first publication the world has changed a lot, especially in the domain of electronic records. Today we have some perspectives and tools that we did not know ten years ago, and which certainly has to influence on recordkeeping approaches. |
