ESAGED, Escuela Superior de Archivística y Documentación, linked with Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona, has been the first organization to obtain ISO 30301 certification. The certificate has been granted by IGC International Global Certification.ESAGED certificate

To all who have worked on this series of standards is a good new. The ESAGED has a strong commitment with ISO 30300, developing a specialized training program, which first edition has already been successfully completed. It was a risky decision in times of crisis. I participated as a teacher in this training and students have found great interest to the news of the proposals, particularly the change of viewpoint.

For me the real value of ESAGED certification is the understanding that a School providing a specific training plan on ISO 30300, should lead by example. The implementation of the standard and subsequent certification means that ESAGED staff knows of what they speak when preparing the case study for students..

Now the ISO 30301 training program goes to Mexico, where we are hosted by the Escuela Mexicana de Archivos.

And interest continues growing up...!.

JTCG meeting November 2012

The JTCG (Joint Technical Coordination Group) on the management system standards (MSS) met last November in Salvador de Bahia. I went on behalf of TC46/SC11 responsible for ISO 30300.

Once published in the new ISO Directives (Annex SL) the structure, common definitions and text which all MSS shall implement, the group has focused on solving the questions received and planning the work to be done.

The JTCG sent a questionnaire to the relevant committees to collect the status of projects to adapt to the new Annex SL ISO procedures.

In addition to the "early adopters", including the ISO 30301, now is the turn of adaptations and changes in the existing standards. The process produces many questions and resistance to change. The more advanced committees are:

  • ISO 27001, have done all the work and have sent a report to the TMB for authorizing them some deviations from the original text.
  • ISO 14001, have begun preliminary work and have a number of doubts and questions discussed in the meeting
  • ISO 50001, in very early stage have also some basic questionsto be solved

The ISO 30301was published before the final version that appears in Annex SL, so it is 90% alligned. In the next review to be completed in 2015 will be a new version 100% adapted.

The harmonization process is unstoppable though is still some way to go...

ISO 23081-3: A very useful tool

This past September was published as ISO UNE, the third part (23081-3) of standards dedicated to Metadata for records, which present a method of self-assessment of readiness of organizations agaisnt ISO 23081-1 and ISO23081-2.Metadata readiness report

This is a different standard. It has a few pages that explain how is the self-assessment method, but the important thing is the accompanied worksheet, which is used to put the method into practice.

If an organization wants to know their readiness agaisnt ISO 23081 standards, only is needed answering questions in the first tab following the suggested numerical scale, and will automatically get two reports that indicate how the organization is with respect to metadata, one for the  framework and the other for the system.

I've used it for a client. Very useful!
